Supermarket Display Murals

The Supervalu supermarket in Westport, Co Mayo recently underwent a complete refit. The design agency The Delta Group contacted me about the use of large-format mural images of local scenes for display on the back walls of the fishmonger, butcher and deli counters. This was both an exciting and a daunting proposition. Exciting because I have a depth of good imagery from the area, the enlargements would be huge, and they would be seen by thousands of people every week for several years. Daunting because this type of enlargement tests the technical integrity of an image to the extreme.

National Geographic image use

Just licensed several images from my Irish and travel collections to National Geographic where they are being used to front several of their guided adventure travel holidays, both online and in their print brochure.

Lonely Planet guidebook cover

I finally managed to land the front cover of the Lonely Planet Ireland guide. I was even in the Lonely Planet office in Melbourne about 10 years ago when they were selecting the cover and saw one of my shots mocked up and ready to go - but to my disappointment they went with another option. However when I submitted this image I was sure it would make a good cover - in fact I often compose and shoot verticals with covers in mind. This is a location where you almost never fail to come away with an interesting shot. The combination ...

Frommer's Argentina guidebook cover

I was delighted that Frommer's chose one of my images of Monte Fitzroy in Patagonia as the front cover of their new Argentina guide. This was shot on a trip to Patagonia in March/April of 2006. The southern hemisphere doesn't jump to mind when you think of the world's great displays of autumn colours, but the colours produced by the deciduous beech of Patagonia would rival anywhere. This is the fourth book or magazine cover from the shoots of Monte Fitzroy on this trip - my last incidentally before switching from film to digital.

The location where ...

John Hinde 2012 Ireland Calendar cover

Just recieved some copies of John Hinde's Beautiful Ireland calendar for 2012. It features an image of mine from the Cliffs of Moher, with a foreground of daisies.

John Hinde Beautiful Ireland 2012 Calendar

Interesting that this shot was not possible before Clare County Council put in the controversial flagstone barriers that now keep visitors to this iconic Irish tourist landmark well back from the cliff edge. Prior to this the ground was well trampled, but within a year of works being completed, wildflowers like these had already returned.
