Monte Fitz Roy, Patagonia
Monte Fitz Roy lies on the border between Chile and Argentina. It is named in honour of Robert FitzRoy, captain of the HMS Beagle, who charted large parts of the Patagonian coast in 1834. The mountain's native name, Cerro Chalten, means 'smoking mountain', in reference to the cloud that frequently gathers around the summit. For me the main challenge was overcoming the cloud, and it took several aborted attempts before I encountered a dawn clear enough to take this image.
