Mission Mountain Sunset, Montana, USA

The Mission Mountains are an unfrequented range at the heart America's Rocky Mountains. For me their appeal lay partly in their remoteness, and partly in the abrupt nature of their slopes. Soaring suddenly skyward from pan-flat surrounds, the peaks seemed out of place amid the surrounding prairie. I composed this sunset image to emphasise the contrast in landscape, with Montana's famous 'big sky' completing the scene.
