Balanced Rock, Utah, USA

Arches National Park is home to countless fantastic rock formations. Balanced Rock features a bulbous mass of stone improbably perched at the top of a high pinnacle. Here the formation is silhouetted against an approaching thunder storm. As I took this shot, the electricity was tangible in the air around me. A long exposure was necessary in the gathering darkness, and allowed several lightning strikes to record on film.
